Bowen Island Seascape Workshop May 16-18, 2020 Full Itinerary

Below is an outline of our 3-day program. Please keep in mind that

times and locations, while currently suggested, are subject to change due to

weather conditions or other circumstances.

Sunrise: 5:30 am        |        Sunset: 9:00 pm


DAY 1:  SATURDAY MAY 16

Day 1 of the workshop will be divided between classroom sessions in the first half of the day to field shooting during the second half.

Please bring your computer for Day 1 as we will be practicing some post processing essentials.   We will be heading out to shoot on Day 1 from the classroom, please bring your shooting gear with you in the morning.  Please wear comfortable footwear as our shooting location we will be along the water and we will need to walk around some boulders. 

9:00 - 10:00 – Introductions 

10:00 - 11:00 - Classroom Session: – The principles of Long Exposure Photography.

This session will cover the fundamental basics along with artistic guidance to create compelling LE images.

11:00 - 12:00 - Classroom Session: Overview of the principles of Masking and Layers in Photoshop. 

Sharon will provide a summary of the Photoshop tools and skills needed for post processing seascape images.

12:00 - 1:30pm – Lunch on your own (there will be a variety of eating options within a short driving distance of the classroom).

1:30 - 2:30 - Classroom Session: Enhancing long exposure images with post processing techniques.

This session will delve into the finessing of post processing LE images.  We will also talk about pre-visioning a scene when in the field and completing the execution of that vision on the digital darkroom. 

2:30- 3:30 - Classroom Session: Combing long exposure with still images - Creating composite images that convey artistic vision. 

3:30 - 5:00 - Group Field Photography – Practicing Long Exposure (Snug Cove)


DAY 2:  SUNDAY MAY 17

During Day 2 of the workshop we will be learning post processing techniques. You are encouraged to bring a laptop so you can practice and implement post processing tools and skills.

7:00 - 9:00 - Group Field Photography – Seascape Scene

9:00 - 10:00 Breakfast Break

10:00 - 12:00 - Hands-on Post Processing of Long Exposures of Participants’ Captures - This session will be hands on and students will practice on their computers.

10:30 – 1:00 Advanced Long Exposure - Combining Two Exposures

1:00 - 2:30 – Lunch Break

2:30 - 4:30 – Classroom Session: Post Processing: Replacing skies and creating reflections for seascapes

4:30 - 5:30 – Classroom Session: ICM – Intentional Camera Movement and applications to Landscape Photography.


DAY 3:  MONDAY MAY 18

Day 3 of the workshop will be spent almost entirely in the classroom going through student’s images for portfolio review.  Image review will be alongside post processing techniques.  We will be reviewing images taken during the workshop.  However, you are more than welcome to submit previous images from your portfolio.  Each participant can submit 8-12 images.

10:00 - 12:00 - How to ‘paint’ a black and white image using blending modes - This session will be hands on and students will practice on their computers.

12:00-approx. 4:00 Classroom Image Reviews

4:00 – Conclusion and good-bye hugs.

PORTFOLIO REVIEWS

·     If you desire an image review on Sunday, please bring 6-8 (or less) digital files on a memory stick.

·     The images can be those recorded during the workshop, or you can submit completed works you would like Sharon to evaluate.

·     Both original unedited RAW files and/or processed files are welcomed.
