SALON SHOW - SERIES DEVELOPMENT COURSE SPRING 2026
The presentation below showcases the bodies of work created by participants in the Series Development course. Over the course of several months, these photographers challenged themselves to move beyond creating individual images and instead develop cohesive photographic series centered around a clear idea, theme, or story.
Each participant began by creating an Intention Statement—a proposal that helped clarify the direction of their project and provided a roadmap for the work that followed. Staying true to that intention, they curated existing images, created new ones, and carefully refined their selections to build a body of work that was both visually and conceptually cohesive.
Throughout the process, participants explored how the tools of photography—composition, tonal range, contrast, colour, black and white, negative space, and visual rhythm—could be used to strengthen the communication of their ideas and support their artistic vision. As each image tells its own story, the challenge was to create a series in which the images work together to tell a larger and more meaningful one.
A significant component of the course was the development of a polished Vision Statement. More than simply describing the work, these statements articulate what story the photographer wishes to tell, why it is important, and how that vision is expressed through the images. The Vision Statement became an essential tool for guiding creative decisions and ultimately presenting the completed series.
Creating a successful body of work is one of the most difficult and rewarding challenges in photography. It requires dedication, consistency, artistic growth, and the ability to maintain a clear vision over an extended period of time. The series presented here represent the culmination of that effort and provide a fascinating glimpse into the diverse interests, perspectives, and creative voices of the photographers who participated in the course.
I am incredibly proud of the work my students have created during my destination workshops over the years. Their dedication, creativity, and willingness to push boundaries have resulted in stunning images that truly capture the essence of the places we’ve explored. Seeing their growth as photographers is a constant source of inspiration. If you’re looking to elevate your own photography to this level, I invite you to join us on a future workshop. With hands-on guidance and immersive experiences, you too can transform your vision and create images that tell compelling stories. - Sharon Tenenbaum

One of the most rewarding online courses for me to teach is the Series Development Course. In this course, students focus on creating a cohesive body of work—whether it's intended for publication, exhibition, or personal fulfillment. A key part of the process is writing a vision statement to accompany their series, allowing them to articulate the intention and meaning behind their work. Those who complete the course have demonstrated persistence, dedication, and a deepening of their own artistic voice. As a teacher, it’s incredibly fulfilling to witness the growth and creativity that emerges through their final projects. I’m excited to showcase a selection of these series here for you to enjoy.
