Advanced B&W Course

ADVANCED B&W COURSE

The Advanced B&W Course is an in-depth exploration of black and white post-processing, designed for photographers who want to push their monochrome work to the highest level. This course dives deep into all approaches to B&W processing, from subtle tonal refinement to bold, expressive interpretations, using a wide range of Photoshop tools and techniques. Prerequisites include basic and intermediate Photoshop knowledge, as we will build upon those foundations and move quickly into advanced workflows. You’ll learn the tools, techniques, and closely guarded secrets that bring depth, contrast, mood, and emotion into your images—transforming them into truly breathtaking black and white photographs.

Because mastery in black and white is achieved through thoughtful practice, this course is designed to give you the time and space to truly develop your skills. Building on the previous Advanced B&W course, this expanded version includes two additional sessions, allowing for more in-depth review of student work and constructive feedback. There will be regular homework to help reinforce techniques and deepen understanding, so participants should plan to set aside some time for practice. The goal is not intensity for its own sake, but a supportive, encouraging environment where consistent practice leads to meaningful progress and confident, expressive B&W post-processing.

Please Note: We will refresh key tools such as the Pen Tool, Gradients, and Vector Masks, but these will not be taught from scratch as they are in Sharon’s Photoshop Workshops and in the Video Tutorials. For anyone interested in joining this course, it is therefore a prerequisite to have either attended the Photoshop course or to have worked through the corresponding video tutorials, ensuring everyone is comfortable with the foundational tools we’ll be building upon.
