Questions Addressed:

  1. We began by looking at the first of Anita’s images — a striking photograph built strongly around form, light, and shadow. We explored ways to expand the tonal range and carefully analyzed how the composition contributed to the overall impact of the image.

  2. In Lucia’s image, we examined how a rectangular composition could successfully be transformed into a square format. In doing so, we discussed how the change in crop altered the visual story and why tonal adjustments became necessary to maintain balance and emphasis.

  3. We then reviewed another of Anita’s images, this time a vibrant and colourful photograph filled with interesting shapes and visual rhythm. Once again, composition became the focus as we explored ways to strengthen and refine the image for greater visual impact.

  4. With Cindy’s high-key image, we demonstrated techniques for enhancing subtle tonal separation and making white-on-white elements stand out with more depth and clarity.

  5. Lastly, we looked at some inspiring work by Amanda Van Der Westhuizen and discussed possible techniques and creative approaches behind the creation of her images.
